A clean towel, a warm blanket and fresh sheets may seem like simple comforts, but for families dealing with the aftermath of a disaster, having these basic necessities can help restore a sense of dignity when so much of daily life has been disrupted.
That is the kind of support that around 5,000 hotel linens donated by Grand Hyatt Manila will provide through the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), which received the donation to support its disaster response and recovery initiatives.
The donation includes bedding, blankets, towels and pillowcases that will be added to PDRF’s dignity relief kits for future emergencies, giving hundreds of families access to clean and useful essentials during difficult days. Some of the linens will also support recovery efforts in Talisay, Cebu, where they are scheduled to be distributed in September.

Making sure the supplies reach communities that need them also involved a network of partners. PDRF’s logistics partner GO21 Logistics, together with LGC Stewards of Change, helped transport the donated linens from Manila to the PDRF Emergency Operations Center in Clark, Pampanga.
The partnership could also extend beyond the donation, with Grand Hyatt Manila expressing interest in learning more about PDRF’s HANDA disaster readiness platform. Such collaboration can help connect immediate relief with preparedness, giving organizations more opportunities to work with communities before emergencies happen rather than only responding after disaster strikes.
The donation also shows how resources from businesses can be put to use in ways that benefit communities long after their original purpose has ended. Hotel linens that once served guests can now become part of relief efforts, providing comfort and practical support to families working through recovery.

Helping communities prepare for and recover from disasters can take many forms, and organizations do not have to wait for a major emergency before finding ways to contribute. Businesses can donate useful resources, logistics groups can lend their networks, and even groups of friends can organize collections for communities that need support.
If Grand Hyatt Manila can turn resources it already has into something useful for families facing disasters, other organizations can look at what they have and find their own way to help.
