Unilever Philippines teams up with LGU to bring skills training in hair care, beauty care, and cookery closer to communities

In General Trias, livelihood training is being brought directly to the communities that need it most, with barangays set to host a 21-day program designed to help residents build skills they can turn into real income. The initiative, led by Unilever Philippines in partnership with the local government, focuses on practical training in hair care, beauty care, and cookery, alongside financial literacy sessions and starter kits for small-scale livelihood work.
For many residents, the biggest barrier to training is not willingness, but access. This program removes that hurdle by bringing the classroom closer to home. Instead of long travel or added costs, participants will be trained within their own barangays across eight batches running from April to November. Screening will also be done on-site, making the process more immediate and community-based.
At its core, the program is built around a simple idea. It’s that skills, when made accessible, can become a bridge to opportunity. Alongside technical training, participants are guided on how to manage earnings and start small livelihood activities, turning everyday skills into potential sources of steady income.
Those who complete the program may also earn National Certificate Level II certification, which can help open doors to employment or serve as a foundation for small home-based businesses. For top-performing trainees, assessment fees will be waived, and cash incentives from the LGU will be provided as initial capital. It’s a small but meaningful push for those ready to take the next step.

General Trias, which hosts Unilever’s manufacturing facility responsible for most of the company’s locally produced goods, now becomes the setting for a program that tries to link industry presence with community upliftment.
It is a reminder that livelihood does not always begin with big capital or big breaks. Sometimes, it starts with a skill taught close to home, a chance to learn, and a first step that feels within reach.
