A child’s learning does not end when the school bell rings. At home, parents also play an important role in helping children understand lessons, manage emotions, and stay motivated to learn.
That was the focus of San Miguel Foundation’s Kaagapay Training in Davao, which brought together more than 100 parents and Barangay Education Workers (BEWs).
Held in partnership with AHA Learning Center, the Santa Cruz Local Government Unit, and the Schools Division Office, the training gave participants practical knowledge and resources to take on their role as co-educators.
Sessions covered socio-emotional development, positive discipline, bullying awareness, and practical academic strategies. These are lessons parents can bring home and use in everyday situations, whether they are helping a child with schoolwork, dealing with difficult behavior, or supporting a child who may be struggling emotionally.
BEWs also gained tools they can use as they work alongside families and schools in their communities.
By bringing parents into the conversation on education, Kaagapay Training recognizes the role families can play in helping children learn and thrive.
Programs like this can start important conversations about how communities can support children beyond the classroom. Schools, organizations, businesses, and groups of friends can also find ways to share useful skills and resources with families in their communities.
Sometimes, helping a child succeed starts with giving the people who guide them the right tools.
