A free kidney screening program in Taytay is giving residents something that can be easy to overlook when life gets busy: a chance to check on their health before a problem becomes harder to manage.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can develop silently, with many people unaware they have it until symptoms appear or the disease has already progressed. In the Philippines, an estimated 13 million Filipinos are living with CKD, making early screening an important step in protecting both health and family finances.
Through the “Iwas Dialysis, Ligtas Kidneys: Get CheCKD Habang Maaga Pa!” program, the Taytay local government, in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Philippines and with support from Angat Taytay, is bringing free kidney health screening closer to residents.
In just two months, nearly 4,000 people have been reached through screening activities held in barangays, schools, public facilities, and other community locations. The program gives residents an opportunity to learn about their kidney health, identify possible risks early, and seek medical care when needed.
That early step can mean more time to make informed choices, seek proper care, and protect families from the financial burden that can come with advanced kidney disease.
The program will continue bringing free screening closer to Taytay communities this August, with activities scheduled at Brgy. San Isidro, Brgy. Dolores, Sitio Tagumpay, and Sitio Bayabas.
