Children often learn their biggest lessons from the smallest moments. A story read aloud, a shared laugh, or a simple act of kindness can stay with them long after the day ends.
That was the spirit behind the recent visit of the Candon Youth for Empowerment Movement Inc. to Pagangpang Elementary School in Galimuyod, Ilocos Sur. As part of its #PeaceHeroes initiative, volunteers spent time with pupils through storytelling, interactive activities, and conversations that encouraged empathy, respect, and understanding.
The group also handed out school supplies to help learners prepare for their classes. The activity marked the sixth batch of the #AVOProject this school year, a personal initiative of volunteer Abi Naungayan that provides learning materials to students who need them.
While the notebooks and pencils will support children in school, the time spent reading books and engaging with them offered something equally meaningful. It reminded young learners that kindness, friendship, and peace can be practiced every day, starting in the classroom and extending into their communities.
