A fresh batch of 406 Kinampay ube seedlings is set to reach farming communities through Project Tugdo, an initiative of Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc., giving more growers the chance to cultivate one of the country’s prized native crops with healthy planting materials.
Behind every healthy seedling are weeks of propagation, regular monitoring, and daily care. Even with the rainy season bringing extra challenges, the team stayed committed to nurturing each plant until it was ready for distribution and field planting. The seedlings will later be distributed to farmers in and around Barangay Cabadiangan, an inland upland community in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, where they are expected to help expand local Kinampay production.
The effort goes beyond producing seedlings. By providing quality planting materials, Project Tugdo is helping farmers start with stronger crops that can lead to better harvests and more stable sources of income. At the same time, it encourages sustainable farming while helping preserve Kinampay, a variety of ube valued for its quality and cultural significance.
