Fresh vegetables grown in the middle of Quezon City became the starting point for a bigger conversation about opportunity. When Solaire Resort Quezon City visited Quezon City University, the gathering showed how urban farming, education, and hospitality can come together to create more jobs while giving local growers a stronger place in the community.
Led by Solaire Resort Quezon City Chief Operating Officer Damian Quayle and QCU President Dr. Theresita V. Atienza, the delegation toured the university’s Center for Urban Agriculture and Innovation. The visit gave guests a closer look at how urban farming helps strengthen food sustainability while supporting local growers.
Freshly harvested vegetables then took center stage during a cooking demonstration by Manyaman Chef de Cuisine Jeffrey Fong and Sous Chef Arnel Velasquez. Using produce grown by Quezon City’s urban farmers, they prepared traditional Filipino dishes that were later shared over a communal meal.
Solaire also shared plans to eventually feature ingredients from these farmers in a signature dish at Manyaman, giving locally grown produce a place on the menu while opening another market for the community’s harvest.
The visit also strengthened Solaire’s partnership with QCU through the Solaire Hospitality Academy. Executives toured the academy’s future training facilities, where students will gain hands-on experience in food and beverage service, culinary arts, housekeeping, and guest services before entering the hospitality industry.
Senior Vice President for Talent Management Haresh Chainani said the academy grew from Solaire’s commitment to help create meaningful employment opportunities for Quezon City residents by equipping aspiring hospitality professionals with the skills needed for long-term careers.
Launched in April 2026 through a partnership between Solaire Resort Quezon City and the Quezon City Government, the Solaire Hospitality Academy is preparing to welcome its first batch of students. The program aims to connect classroom learning with real industry experience, helping graduates enter the workforce with greater confidence.
